I had a flashing arrow, stuck in 3rd, etc. PNP, right. According to many here, I was foolish in questioning that as I also had a code 755 (#2 Shift Solenoid). Changed the PNP, no effect. Changed the #2 Shift Solenoid and all is well. 400 Ohms vs Max 15 (New one was 12). Some on here are a bit sanctimonious in their proclamations of superior knowledge but, a fine board in general. If anyone needs to know the finer points of changing tranny solenoids, please feel free to email.

Thanks for your post. I would love for your to post what you did and how you did it. We can all learn from that. I know that PNP is what everyone jumps at with the shift arrow flashing (including me). The reason is that we don't see very many shift solenoid issues although we see tons of PnP issues with the same symptoms.

The fault I had was P0755 (shift b solenoid - open, short or ground) = shift solenoid 1 - in this case open (400 Ohms resistance). Other 750 series codes apply to the shift solenoid 1 and Lock Up solenoid. These codes are purely for electrical faults and have no bearing on the mechanical or fluid condition of the transmission (so much for the comments I have heard people say they get from dealers and tranny shops about replacing or rebuilding trannys).
To replace you need to remove the battery and battery mount plate. Remove the upper tranny to radiator hose at both ends, ; remove the dipstick housing and loosen the bracket on the left side of the solenoid cover and alow it to rotate down ( I think it is there to piss off anyone attempting to do this job ). The solenoids are under the black cover forward of and below the PNP Switch. It is secured with 9 #40 Torx Bolts and they are Loctited in. For the one just up from the bottom, you will need a 1/4 in. drive Torx bit and to reinstall it you will need to glue the bolt to the bit to get it started (possibly removing the gold covered cover to the left of the solenoid cover could negate this need).
You will need to elevate the tranny a couple of inches to access the right lower bolt (use a floor jack and a piece of 2x4 under the trans housing - no need to unbolt any mounts).
You will need a relatively short 1/4 extension to get at the difficult bolt mentioned above.
Once the cover is off, replacing the solenoids/s is very easy - the recepticals are color coded on the solenoids and the solenoids are pictured by location in the manual available for download on this site.
The cover uses RTV sealant and you will lose approximately 2.5 quarts of trans fluid during the operation.
Reassembly is opposite disassembly and relatively easy (the loctite is the worst part as the Torx Bolts have relatively shallow depressions and are somewhat difficult to get a good hold on with the limited access afforded due to the sub frame.

As posted previously the solenoid is a electrical part It has no bearing on the overall condition of your transmission. It is truly criminal that the dealer would tell you your transmission is gone and that a transmission shop would would push you to rebuild or replace your tranny. Go to a reputable transmission shop and tell them you only want the solenoids replaced. The parts are under $50.00 and the labor shouldn't be any more than say 5-8 hours. Total job should be between $400-$800. Remember to flush your tranny every 30,000 miles or so especially if you have the dreaded GM transmission model # 4T65E.
I just had code 222 come up in A-1 along with the flashing arrow and check engine light. A-2 had was ok with 111 and tried to read A-6 but can't get anything at all. After i cleared code 222 the arrow and cel were gone.....for now.
