Warning signal won't stop

I have a 93 Volvo 240 that has a warning signal that will not quit when the car has started. Normally the warning bell will stop when the car is running and the dome light will go off. I also had a 85 Volvo that did the same thing. Has anyone else had this problem, and if so what did you do about it. I finnaly pulled out the relay in order to stop the ringing. There must be a better way. Any advice?
