My son wants to install a Forge Motorsport Blow Off Valve kit on our stock 1996 850 Turbo. To see what he is talking about, go to this URL or the Forge Motorsport web site and search for 850 blow 0ff valve kits:

Has anyone done this and is it a modification that will affect the engine negatively in any way, including the ECU? If you have done it, what pitfalls, if any, are there for the installation?
Thanks.

My understanding (I've never installed one) is that it neither impacts negatively or positively. However, you do get more "sound" from under the hood because of it making your car sound as if it might be faster....you know, the sound that older cars make when their catalytic converters were fried? Anyway, others will most likely chime in.

That is exactly what my son explained to me; he wants the sound! I am from the pre-cat era and haven't had a car that had a fried catalytic converter, just one in which the baffles vibrated.
If I was going to go for performance, it wouldn't be just sound. Oh well. If is neither positive or negative I won't worry about it since he is buying the valve. I was concerned that it might cause the CEL to work too much.
Thanks, MIJ.
