actual verification of ETM update

Everything on the Volvo S80. Sometimes called an "executive car", the S80 was Volvo's top-of-the-line passenger car. P2 platform.

actual verification of ETM update

Post by daveloeffler »

Hi, I own a 2000 S80 T6 with 74800 miles on it. I called Volvo of N.America and spoke with a rep about the recall. I gave her the vin number and she advised me that it was done on 9/21/06. I have the service record (hard copy) from that date but it is not exactly clear that the software was updated. This is how it is worded in my invoice from the dealer.
Concern: abs light is on. Advise
Cause: Dealer found turbo hose disconnected causing light to come on.
Correction: Dealer pulled codes and RESET software and lights. Car operating properly at this time.

The date corresponds with the "software upgrade" but on the invoice there is no mention of the recall work. I have purchased a Equus Innova 3100 diagnostic tool but it has not arrived yet.

I took the car in last month as it was occasionally going into "limp" mode. The dealer told me that it was one of the electronic servos that corresponds with the automatic transmission. They told me that even if I did replace this module it may not take care of actual transmission.

I have third party warranty coverage but their response was that since that module is not internal to the transmission or a lubricated part it is not covered. I know that is a whole other issue. But can anyone advise me on any of this.
Thanks so much, Dave

The disconnected turbo hose caused the ABS light to come on? That's some interesting Volvo software there!

Have you changed the fluid in the transmission? If it's original with 75K on it, I'm pretty sure it's shot. Try changing that out first. Go here for directions: S80 Transmission Service.
