1985 760Turbo Automatic 185,000m__Coolant Temp. Sensor

Post by turbo no/go »

I repalced my coolant temperature sensor, '85 760Turbo, w/ one that was listed as made for a non-turbo.Does anyone know what's the diff.and will this matter. It was the only one available with 'one prong connector', as my original one was.Should I just re-wire to fit a 2-prong or will the non-turbo be allright. It looked exactly like the orig. part and fit right in.It didn't seem to fix the original problem of the car being very hard to start. It took about 15 tries to get it turn over after I replaced the sensor, which is routine over the past 3 weeks.
This is my original post below with a list of all parts replaced/checked.

___Car has been hard/impossible to start for about 3 weeks. When the problem started, it would take 2-4 tries to get it to start. That was unusual considering the car had started first try/every try for the 7 months prior (after both fuel pumps had been replaced).Gradually it became worse, taking 7-10 turns of the key to get it to go.Now I can spend 20mins trying to get it to turn over, which 90% of the time it finally does and then drives/sounds/seems completley normal.I can shut it off and it will always restart if I wait no longer than 10-15 mins.If I wait longer than that it goes right back to taking 15-20 tries to turn over, if it goes at all.
Shouldn't the fact that it restarts'immediately' after shut off but not if you wait 15-20mins tell me something obvious??
If I now rule out- coolant temp.sensor(new)
air mass meter(relatively new)
internal/external pumps and filters(new)
ballast resistor(replaced 10months ago)
fuel pump relay(new)
fuses(checked/cleaned replaced)
ground wires(checked/cleaned)
ignition control module(less than a year old)
fuel pressure regulator(1yr old)
battery(less than 2 years old and checked)
alternator(checked/working)
ignition coil(checked/working)
distributor/hall sensor(checked/cleaned)
plugs-wires(like new/cleaned/checked)
?????????????????????????????????
What exactly am I left with.
Starter?
Hopeless??
Thanks for any ideas.

Even though replacing the coolant temp. sensor didn't seem to fix the problem, it could have very well played a role in the problems my car was having. Now that the car is not being difficult to start anymore, it's running great and it feels good to know the new sensor is in there.
Thanks for all the great advice.
