Who and what is Googlebot

Who and what is Googlebot and why is he "embedded" online on the 850 forum.
Is this a bug on my PC or is it something to do with MVS software.

I don't think this has anything to do with MVS. I had a strange message that came up the other day. I did a "print screen" and sent it to Matthew because it concerned me. Please let me or him know if it was anything that was alarming to you. Hackers do try to do things to the software on this site and infiltrate it with their propaganda, especially since Matt made it more difficult to spam the site.

I guess it's not necessarily a virus, but all the more reason to have good spyware scanner on your system...

Max is right. Googlebot is merely a "bot" or "spider" that visits the site occasionally to read our posts. Sounds invasive? Well it is, but that means Google searches will turn up results posted in our forum. Either Google knows the text on this site or it doesn't, and if it doesn't, kiss the Google search traffic goodbye (which is a large percent of visits).

Any site owner/admin can bar bots from indexing the pages if he/she wants to.

Googlebots pose 0 threat to your PC. But do practice good virus scanning because there are around 114,000 known viruses out there.

Google searches will turn up results posted in our forum.

It is also helpful for 'later in years' people like me. I did a Google search not too long ago and found I was reading one of my posts that I couldn't remember putting on here.

If I could remember where I had put my memory I would think I was winning the battle....if I could remember which battle that was.....!

I hear ya! I'm in my middle years, and find myself "discovering" posts by me on Google.
