2000 s80 car starts to lurch forward when a/c is on Topic is solved

I live in a town with no dealer to look at my volvo and I just bought it 4 months ago. Please help if possible. When I turn the a/c on in the car my engine will lurch forward or the idle will increase when sitting still.It is getting really old and there is someone to fix it in town but I don't want to pay a high bill if I don't have to. Please let me know if you have any solutions. Thanks, Jeff

I had the exact same problem on my 2000 S80, I took it to the dealer and they reloaded the software on the ECU, that was all to it. It had nothing to do with tuning the engine or else. I guess you better talk to a Volvo dealer as I am not sure everynone will have the latest 2000 S80 softwware upgrade.

"software upgrade..." I cannot conceive of a car powered by a PC Operating system that needs upgrades every few years or so

Well, I am not exactly sure hwo they called it, I know it had to do with upgrading a bug on the control unit. It did fix the problem and I am back to normal
