Engine timeing
Engine timeing
After the ECM repairs the car ran great for a few days. Then the rear main seal let go. After replaceing it the engine would not start at all. Then it hit me, this is an electronic engine. I did not time the fly wheel w/engine sensor. after pulling the trans and inspecting the flywheel there are no timing marks execpt for the larger spacer on the tone wheel attached to the flywheel. I tryed it in advanced and retard, Those are the only bolt patterns available useing the engine position sensor and tone ring spacer as a refrance. So where does the spacer go when #1 is @ tdc ?
I have used the TDC mark on the crank or harmonic balancer and then the long part on the flexplate or flywheel at 9 o'clock. Not totally sure, but check it out on brickboard.com in the FAQ section of RWD. I have done the same thing and had to drop the transmission and redo. Lots of fun. Reading the Volvo green books can even be a little confusing, but I first make sure the front timing marks are properly set and then go under and adjust the flexplate accordingly.
