If your car is a single overhead camshaft engine it will be 140hp. If your car is double (2) overhead camshafts it will be 168hp. If it is turbo also it will be 222hp.

No such thing as a SOHC 850 except the diesel. There were 4 non turbo motors available on the 850:
2.0 10valve DOHC 128hp
2.0 20 valve DOHC 140hp
2.5 10 valve DOHC 143hp
2.5 20 valve DOHC 170hp (DIN not SAE)

"DOHC" on the spark plug cover = 10 valve.
"20 valve" on the spark plug cover = 20 valve.

Guess you don't live in Canada eh! My brother owned 1994 a 2.3 litre inline 5 cyl. single overhead 850 F.Y.I.
Cheers!

It doesn't exist, even in Canada. The only engines sold in Canada in 1994:

B5252FS (DOHC 10 valve, not sold in the US)

D5252T TDI (SOHC diesel) build by VW for Volvo, only offered in europe.

The only SOHC whiteblock ever produced was a prototype engine from 1981 now sitting in the volvo museum.

I stand corrected, what I meant to say was 10 valve vs. 20 valve.
sorry for the holy war reaction.

This is a common misconception on this side of the Atlantic where the 10 valve engines are available.

Many people think that the 10 valve only needs one camshaft but are surprised to learn that one is for the intake and the other for the exhaust. However, as tjts1 points out, this does not apply to the 10 valve diesel.

Well put! To add further to the confusion is that there is only one rear camshaft seal? Why? Because the other is sealed and doesn't require a seal. The camshaft rear seal goes on and then on top of that is your CPS (camshaft position sensor), thus some people think that there's only one camshaft.
