Help, Advice and DIY Tutorials on Volvo's P80 platform cars -- Volvo's 1990s "bread and butter" cars -- powered by the ubiquitous and durable Volvo inline 5-cylinder engine.
I need to replace my rear brake rotors in my '98 V70R. I see on FCP Groton, that there are two kinds: Zimmerman drilled $53.00 or the not-drilled, $32.00.
Does anyone have any pros and cons for using (or not using) drilled rotors; i.e., is it worth the extra $20??
And which kind of brake pads are recommended: OEM Volvo or ceramic, etc.?
I always use the Volvo pads...have had nothing but problems with squealing, even with 'high quality' aftermarket.
80% of the braking energy is expended at the front of the car, so I don't think it's too important to have those rear (solid) discs cross-drilled. However, I did get them for my car just because I'm anal and I wanted the front and rear to look the same.
Are the Zimmermann brake rotors that FCP sells worth buying? The sell on FCP for $35 each, but my local Volvo dealer wants $106 for each OEM Volvo. Is there much difference?
I personnally use the Brembo rotors that FCP sells. I like them, they are not drilled. I really don't have a need for drilled rotors as their benefit is really only noticed under extreme performance conditions.
Below find a link to rotors that Ozark Lee kindly supplied. The rotors that they had for sale are now sold. They do have more so give them a call as they are in Canada, eh!
