I am considering buying a 93' 850 GLT. It has been garaged for some time and only has 56,000 miles on it. The heating and A/C fan isnt working and it needs a general tune up (belts, timing belt, hoses etc).
What is the general consensus on this model and year volvo? Is this worth putting some money into?

I own 2 volvos, a 1993 Volvo 854 GLT, and a 1994 Volvo 855. Overall, both are excellent machines. There were actually 2 different "model" 1993's produced. The second-gen 1993 is 100% awsome. The first-gen 1993 has a few superficial problems, but all are easily remedied.
The low mileage would concern me -- maybe it has a problem? Have a trusted independent shop take a look, and if they give it their blessing, I say go for it.
In short, I own a 93 850, and I don't regret it one bit. Truely a pleasure to drive.

I own a 850 1993. How to tell the differance from first and second generation. I was also told the 93 transmission could only be replaced with another 93 trans, all other years woud not work. I have just developed low idel problems with some stalls.
