Hi,
Me again.
98 v70 about 169k
Automatic Transmission
Non Turbo.
OK... I replaced the PNP switch last night... did all the testing to make sure it was aligned before tightning everything.
Before packing it up... I did the seafoam through the vacum.
Car ran fine, gears were right w/ gearselector and reverse lights work every time I slip into reverse.
Blew a hell of alot of smoke and drove it around for 5 miles last night.
This morning... I proceed to change the oil.... Lifted the car (front) drained the oil, removed and replaced w/ new filter and filled it back with 6 qts.
I then remove the tranny plug, drained out the pan and put back the exact 3.5 qts I drained from the pan. ( I will do the MIJ flush in a week or so)
I took the car off the jack stands and went to start the car and nothing.
I know my wife had a dead battery issue on Friday when she was on line for 20 minutes with the key in the on position (engine off)
she got a jump and drove it straight home. (10 minute/6 mile drive)
Yesterday before I sefviced the car, it started fine from Friday's jump, went to discount and they tested the battery saying it was fine.
500 something (cold cranks) was his reading and slightly under a FULLY charged battery, but declined to sell me a new batery saying it was fine.
So now... I have juice in the car, all the lights light up, but no click click click of a drawn/dead battery.
I did not disconect anything this morning.
Last thisg I did last night after I returned from the 5 mile drive was to check my codes with the pocket reader and I errased the codes afterwards.
I started and shut the car several times last night.
Cant understand what is happening here.
Any hints?
Thanks
Eric
Changed Oil and replaced 3.5 qts of ATF D III, wont start

Just asked my wife about Friday and she said when the battery (was dead) she also niticed when attempting to start the car before she was able to get a jump, she did not hear the buzzing sound if the fuel pump.
OK.. that sounds like something other than a dead battery.
But she had the car jumped bingo... It started right up.
right now, I am having the same condition she had... I have power to the dash, and everything else, but no buzz from the fuel pump when I turn the key.
Could the battery be on its way out? Not giving enough juice to the fuel pump? I find it odd, but then w/ a volvo, you never know.
Thanks
Eric

edited...
gear shifter is not locked as I thought.
The release/saftey button with my foot on the brake and key on, does move from P all the way to L and does not start in any gear.
Just in case my PNP installation went sour.
Still no sound from the fuel pump.
In the oil and trany fluid change... could I have been near any electrical connectors that I may have accidentally disconnected that may lead to the fuel pump?
Thanks again.

My guess... battery.
They're the most devilish part on our cars. Look good, act good one day, then something will act strange. You ask the battery and he'll look at you and say "ME? Come on. I'm innocent. You know ME. I'm FULLY CHARGED," with his arms spread and an imploring look in his face.
Don't fall for it, he'll be the cause of the problem 1 of 3 times you have an unexplained issue.

sounds like corroded batt. posts No electric power-starts on jump fine & runs good-jump may arc across corrosion, establishing connection which then later fails again. Try cleaning batt. posts
I believe you have some unrelated situations causing your problems.
I don't think that changing your engine oil and transmission fluid is causing your car not to start or not allowing the shifter to go into a gear other than park.
Not starting: It sounds to me like you have some bad electrical connections, or your starter is beginning to fail. Try this: disconnect both of your battery cables and clean the terminals and the cable connectors on the inside. Then reconnect them. Also make sure the negative, ground, cable is not corroded where it connects to the frame. Next, disconnect the positive (red) cable (do this with the ground cable disconnected from the battery to prevent sparking) from the starter and be sure that connection isn't corroded. Check the other connections, too.
If it is not the connections, it may be the starter; try tapping on it with a hammer. That will possibly move the brushes enough to make contact, and start the car. If this works, your starter is wearing out and will need replacing sooner or later. If checking all the cable connections and tapping the starter doesn't work, the starter may be shot. An auto parts store can test the starter, too.
As far as the shifter goes, I don't know what the problem might be. Ours moves when we push the override button.

Of course I was puzzled at first since I had not touched the car to start it since the night before.
What does an oil change have to do with a car not sterting?
Nothing.. never did never will... I was just startled.
Anyway... Battery was dead.
Since we bought the car in late September and did not know when that battery was purchased since there were no date stamps on this one.
I decided to just go with a new battery.
Thank you.
Eric
