I have a new 2004 S80 and I want to do the first oil change this week. Is there a torque spec for the oil drain plug and the oil filter cap? The engine is the 2.9 non turbo.
Thanks for any information

I removed my oil drain plug at 15k miles and installed a Fumoto oil valve. It has more than paid for itself by not having to buy the oil plug washer at every change. It is a brass ball-valve that allows me to drain the oil without any tools except the oil filter wrench. I have used these valves the past 10 years on various vehicles with no issues. I highly recomend it if you are going to perform your own maintenance. You can find the info at:
www.fumotovalve.com
BTW the Haynes manual states "tighten securely". For threads of that size the tourque (with new washer) should be enough to 'crush' the washer - about 25 ft/lbs.

Thanks, Tsquared
What about the oil filter? Is there a torque associated with it?
Where can I get the oil drain plug gasket?

I have always tightened my filters as tight as I could turn them with my hand (clean, with no oil residue and don't forget to lube the gasket). The washer you can pick up at the dealer, INDY (Independant Repair shop), or parts house (they may need the old one to get the correct size). For removal of the old oil filter you will need an oil filter wrench which is available for less than $5 at any department store or parts house.
If this is the first time you have delved into maintaining your own vehicle I highly recomend that you get a service manual (Haynes or Chilton's will do). It will provide a general guide to a large percentage of all repairs on the car.
