So I have a Volvo, runs fine, and as far as I can tell it works greatly. Problem earlier today as I tried to start it. I go to turn the key, and it turns all the way to the starting point. (Where the music plays, the windows are on, all the electrical works, but the car isn't completely on just yet) then when turning it just the bit further to turn the car completely on, the key turns, and nothing happens, it just stops where it normally would, but the car does not re-act. No sound, no vibrations, nothing.
I played around with it for a bit and found after putting it into neutral and putting it into park, it would turn on... but once turned off and still in park, it would not turn on, I would have to put it into neutral. I tried turning it on while in neutral and some times it would not let me turn the key at all. But other times it would turn on. Also when putting it back into park from putting it in neutral (Note: This is while the car is OFF) and then trying to turn it on, it wouldn't always turn on, but after putting it into neutral (or some gear further back such as drive) and then returning it to park, it would turn on after a few tries.
Also, I tried pulling the gear just back to reverse (which is immedietly after park) and returning it to park, but it does not work at all, only when it is done so from neutral or further back. I am going to guess it has something to do with the car sensing that its in the wrong gear or something of that sort. Mind you when put into park, it stays parked, and does all its normal functions of whatever gear I put it into, such as not rolling backwards in drive, etc. Anyone know what is going on or how I can find out? Any information would be much appreciated.
