Catalytic converter flange 1996 850 Turbo wagon 144K miles

Post by pt850 »

I ordered a catalytic converter from FCP Groton, and we have been having trouble figuring out which type will fit my 96 850 Turbo wagon. Attached are photos of 2 converters, neither of which fit my car. The first one (Davico 026) has a swiveling flange; the second (Davico 030) does not, but lacks a vital feature -- the third image is my crude drawing in which I attempt to show that my engine/manifold has a shoulder or protruding lip that the converter flange has to fit over. Thus the flange needs a cutaway. Any of you fellows had any similar experience? Suggestions as to where to get a proper fit without paying $1K to a Volvo dealer?
The guys at FCP have been really good about all this -- they've sent me all these converters and pictures etc. but we aren't getting any closer to what I need!
Many thanks.

Have you had any luck figuring this out? I am going through the same issue right now. Same car, except it's a '95.

Any info you could share would be great.

The flange in your second photo looks like it has a recess. Will it fit once you put the gasket on?

There was no recess, although it looks like there is one in the photograph. It turned out my problem was likely oxygen sensors, not converter, so have not pursued this. But several people have recommended having an inexpensive aftermarket converter welded into place, thus retaining my original manifold fitting. Hope this helps.
