99 S80 t6. A/C, Tranny and Radio problems

Everything on the Volvo S80. Sometimes called an "executive car", the S80 was Volvo's top-of-the-line passenger car. P2 platform.

99 S80 t6. A/C, Tranny and Radio problems

Post by Jah-Sun »

I just recently won a 1999 S80 T6 at an auction for what I thought was a good price. The body and interior is in fair condition and the engine "SOUNDED" like it was in good shape. After getting the car home i noticed a few problems:
1. "TRANSMISSION SEVICE REQUIRED" , shifting isn't good :x . It's like when you hold the clutch in too long and release it slowly:, but after reading a few post I think i will try changing the fluid and filter
2. The A/C doesn't work:x- I can hear something engaging after turning it on but the blower doesnt come on, I think I checked all the fuses (which are all good), maybe the blower relay is bad?
3.only the speaker in the center of the dash sames to be working :x , I manually checked all the speakers and they are good , the balance and fader are set to the middle ( for all to work)
4. After the car warms up and coming to a complete stop the oil pressure light flickers and the display reads "no oil , stop asap" ( i think , it doesnt stay on long enough to remember):(
5. After a long run the fan stays on when the engine is turned off,Is this normal. i think i smell something, not too sure.
Mileage=126k Unfortunately I don't have an authorized Volvo dealer anywhere near me, I live in the Bahamas.
Can you help

I hate to tell you this but you may be in for a lot of $$ being spent on this particular car. It is normal for the fan to stay on... It's to blow the condensation out of the A/C evaporator. The rest of what you describe is not normal...and the '99 S80 of all cars are/were plagued with many many issues- mostly electrical and some transmission. Flushing the transmission is a good idea...make sure you use the right fluid. That said, for me if I was offered a '99 S80 for free I would decline. It just isn't worth the headache to me.

Ok, I got the A/C sorted out , the blower motor was seized up. I took it out sprayed it up with some WD40 hooked up directly to the battery first to spin forward for a couple of minutes then wired it to run in reverse. Now it works fine.
As for the transmission, it's running fine now but the LCD is still reading " Tranmission Service Urgent". Is there a way to reset these read outs?

The radio works fine , after some investigation I found the amp under the passenger's seat , it looks like it was soaked in water, will look into getting a new one.
One last thing , the oil pressure light comes on along with the reading " No Oil Pressure, Stop engine ASAP". This happens only when the car has been running a long time as if the oil has thinned out or something. I don't smell anything unusual and there are no strange sounds like knocks or anything. Do you have any suggestions
