I'm trying to find something out about your car but it is very difficult because it is so new...is there a cover on the top of the engine with some torx screws? If so this is the spark plug cover...take the screws out. If your car has a turbo you might have to take the turbo hose that comes over the top of the plug cover loose in order to get the screws out and the spark cover off. Once it is off you'll see some coil packs with the spark plug holders...pull up gently on the spark plug holders and the spark plugs are under them. Be aware that some of the plugs are paired with the coil packs so don't get the coil packs mixed up with each other. Good luck and post back as to how things went.

Thanks for your reply. No turbo on my car, but the only cover on top of this engine is the cover, or as it appears, a plastic runners that seems to be part of the intake syste. I have a 99 V70 that has the flat cover with torx, but this engine cover is not the same. It looks like you would have to remove this cover (intake runner manifold) to get to the top of the heads and then the spark plugs, but I don't want to break some seals if they don't need to be removed. It seems weird that the intake runner manifold would have to be removed to get to the plugs, but i just don't know.

That is correct, the intake manifold has to be removed to replace the plugs on this model. What was Volvo thinking?

I recently purchased a 2006 V50, after owning a 5 cylinder '98 V70. I had assumed the engines were similar and the plugs would be accessible under the cover on top of the engine. I became a bit alarmed at mention of removing the intake manifold. So I started poking around in couple of competing Volvo forums. The good news is that the plugs are indeed under the cover on top of the engine. They are under the little black boxes (some sort of coil) that pop out. No intake manifold must be removed. The complete how to with photos can be found with a little searching in the afore mentioned competing forums.
