Post by elcs70 »

i have an automatic 99 s70, the button on the shift nob stuck today while i put it in park from drive. i had to jiggle it to get it to pop out. my brothers 98 s70 has the problem everytime, while my has only done it once. it wouldnt be a problem except you cant take the key out while it the button is stuck in. has anyone else had this problem, any fixes?

I have the same problem but it hasn't gotten any worse so I don't worry about it. Part of the character of the car.

Had a dig in the repair database and a new shifter knob is your only solution by the looks of it .

You need a new/used knob.
In the meantime, CAREFULLY shoot a little WD-40 inside the button area, that will help for a while

Hope this works for you.

Hey, thanks for your input but the shift release button and the shift knob are two different things. I replaced mine on my S70 as it was sticking and on further inspection, I found the plastic parts around the spring on the release handle was breaking out. Anyway, the wood grained one I replaced it with over a year ago is starting to do the same thing. I guess use some WD-40 or better yet, a silicone spray and try to to be gently getting it out of Park or putting it back in Park. Hate to have to replace these every few years.
