V70 D5 estate 2002, Key in the ignition all night....

HI all, My dad has left his key in the ignition all night, he is not sure weather the ignition was on or not. When he went to the car in the morning, it does not start......there are no ignition lights and no sounds when he tries to turn the key. He does however have side lights and the car battery says it has 11.5volts in it. Has Volvo built in a novel antitheft device in case you leave your key in by accident or has the immobiser come on as the key was left in the car or has the battery just run out off life or perhaps the battery in the keyfob has run out..ps keyfob does not operate the central locking either..please help as his nearest dealer is 110 miles away. many thanks.

We did this with our '04 V70 once and had the same symptoms. I don't know why. Anyway, we don't leave our keys in the ignition any more. Simply jump starting the car and driving it for a bit after this incident restored everything.

CAREFULLY jump start the car.
Use the "+" post inside the engine compartment NOT dircetly to the battery
