Dealer charged for recall

Everything on the Volvo S80. Sometimes called an "executive car", the S80 was Volvo's top-of-the-line passenger car. P2 platform.

Dealer charged for recall

Post by subdewd »

After getting my vehicle back 2 weeks ago I was billed for a throttle plate cleaning and ECU update. I find out now it was subject to a recall from NHTSA. This Volvo dealer in Brentwood Missouri is crooked in my opinion.
Can they do this? Makes me wonder how many other people have been taken advantage of.
I never even got a copy of the recall.

Not sure...just know the recall is for the ETM replacement, not the other stuff.

Print out a copy of the recall & go to the dealership with the bill. Present this to them and "suggest" that this may be a "billing error", and ask for a refund. If they refuse, then get the name & contact Volvo NA.

It was done in "steps".
At the beginning when they finally owned up to the defect step 1) was to update software, Step 2) clean throttle body, Step 3) replace throttle body (ETM) and install software.

They extended the warranty on this for to 10 years but, I can't remember the mileage limit.

I have a 2000 T6. The previous owner had the software update done but, it failed again after I bought it. The local dealer (Volvo of Louisville) replaced the ETM and updated the software with no questions asked at NO CHARGE on mine.

You must have an honest dealer, I went back this morning after calling the service manager friday. He didn't bother to return my call.
He wasn't in this morning (so they said) but talked to the "vice president"
of the dealership.
She was polite, went back to the service dept and came back in 20 minutes saying they'd investigate this and they had to be sure it was the right code, blah blah blah. I said I didn't care what the code was we brought it in for dangerous drivability problems and if they wouldn't fix it under that NHTSA recall I would call and make sure NHTSA started another invesigation for this. Yes I got my wife's money back.
I feel sorry for the people that they hosed and am considering contacting my states Attorney General. Jay Nixon eats this this stuff up and he's running for govenor. Opinions?

Kind of, this one is about a mile away, next closest is 7 mi. Moot anyway
we're throwing in the towel and looking for a Honda. Even with the extended warranty it is still too much, not only the money but the inconvenience. Nice ride but it's like being married to a glamour queen, (I guess). My 1988 BMW is more reliable as is my 1983 911SC.

i think the safety thing is way overblown, Today any $15000 vehicle comes with ASC and all he air bags you need, whatever.
Any way if you were inquiring aout the price of the s80 I'll list it or $6800
Know anyone around St. louis let me know.
