Nascar uses 7 year old tires!!!

How to go faster, stop quicker, and turn harder. Chips, exhaust, larger turbos, bigger/slotted/drilled rotors, high performance brake pads, manual boost controllers, performance shocks/struts/springs, airbox mods and more! Also discussion on HID and Xenon lights, aftermarket foglights and other exterior lighting.

Nascar uses 7 year old tires!!!

Post by sony2000 »

Nascar has been dragging around rain tires to all their events for seven years, and had not ever used them until this past weekend in Montreal. Yes, they ran on tires made in 2001. That says something. Us, as passenger tire users will never get a tire from the big manufacturers, that has been in the warehouse for 7 years. Its considered way beyond, its best before date. The race was finally called 3/4 of the way through. Mostly because of the driver's lack of visibility. From what I could see, a number of cars couldn't install their wiper blade at the same time as their rain tires, because they didn't have the assembly to hold it. They should not have been let back on the track... and the race could have continued to the end, for a true champion.

Yes, well, as much as I like NASCAR, they're a bunch of wimps when it comes to rain. Formula 1 runs in rain no matter what. The motorcycle road races even run in rain. Football is played in rain and even snow. But NASCAR, NOOOO, if there's a drop of rain they have to stop the race. Ridiculous. This is the first race I've ever heard of that they've run in rain, and I agree, they should have let it run to the end to determine the winner. If some teams were unprepared, too bad for them.
