SRS SIPS

Everything on the Volvo S80. Sometimes called an "executive car", the S80 was Volvo's top-of-the-line passenger car. P2 platform.

SRS SIPS

Post by subdewd »

I just got my 2000 back from having the driver seat bolster recoverd,
and now the air bag message is on. I read in the manual that the SIPS is not monitored, does anyone know otherwise?
Shop was closed when I called yesturday. Ijust can't get a break with this car!

They have probably unplugged the driver's seat module under the car. The SIPS system can be monitored by way of the Volvo scan tool. You can try to unhook your battery, plugging the module back up (if it's unplugged) and then hooking your battery back up after waiting 15 minutes (make sure you have your radio code). If this doesn't clear the Airbag light, then you will have to go to the dealer to get it cleared. The shop that did your work should have known to unhook the battery before they began their work.

Thanks, I tried disonnecting the battery, Maybe for not long enough, I'll try again. I talked to the owner he said the guy doing the work turned hte key on to move the seat and didn't have it (sips) hooked up so it set the light.
He knew better unfortunatly his worker didn't. Most of his work is domestic (he was working on a Duesenberg when I went to get an estimate), and he did a really good job. Damn,

My suggestion is to make friends with the local dealer's service staff...take them a box of donuts (no, really). and when they're taking a bit of a break, tell them what happened. Someone there might be nice enough to just reset it for you. Otherwise you're in for $40 or $50 for this job that only takes a few minutes.

Tried to leave the battery off longer ,no good, in fact I later read somewhere that doing so will actually trip the light? Don't know who to beleive or if anyone really knows.
I spoke with one independent shop that said that the light should reset itself if there isn't a problem present, would anyone know if that's a fact?.

The guy who repaired the seat should have unhooked the battery when he did this. He tripped the light. What I've read about on all Volvo's from the early 90's and on is that it takes the dealer's scan tool.

had appt with volvo of west county in st. louis for 8 am.
got there and there were people in line from 7:30 am
I waited for 15 minutes before I left. I can't believe the lack of customer
service for volvo in this area of missouri.
I called an independent got in and they tried to clear srs. it turned up a fault
with the seat belt buckle signal. gave it back to me no charge!
I took them a sack of bagels as a show of gratitude.
Will definately go there for service from now on.
Walter's foreign car repair on Brentwood Blvd

So did they clear your light?
Anyway, the bagels will go a long way!

the icon for the air bag cleared but the srs ha a hard code.
Shows the passenger seat belt buckle signal missing.
If it's a simple fix I'll do it myself othewise I'l get in touch with
the upulstry guy and let him fix it. I hate having some else mess with my vehicle.
Do you know if the switch for this is accesable?. How can you test it?
The shop said it was the orange connector under the seat. It did a quick test but it was inconclusive I forgot you probably need weight in the seat?

I'm not sure about the seat belt sensor...I'll try to look it up in VADIS this evening.
