88 760 Service Light

Post by DeRail »

Hi all,

I know it's been asked before, but I'm having trouble with the service lamp on my volvo 760. I depressed the little lever under the rubber grommet, and the light goes out until I turn off the car. Once I turn it back on it will come back again, but only stays on for a minute or two. Am I supposed to hold down the button for any length of time? Just had an oil change done.

Thanks :)
Darrell

As far as I am aware there is no time set for this - just push and it should reset.

On some models the reset button is behind a rubber plug in the front of the instrument panel between the speedo and the tachometer or clock.

My books show these to be 1991/92 740 and 1992/95 940 and 960. It would appear that it was the same on the 1988 760.

On UK models we did not have a service reminder light so the problem never arose.

Thanks all

Got the reminder light reset 8)
It was my fault, the lever is a bit of a pain to get to as wojeepster mentioned, and I was only pushing the lever in partially... enough to reset the light until the car was turned off and then it would come back on. Fully pressed it down and now we're good!

Thanks again

Thank you for the update.

Now, just out of curiosity, where is the reset on the '88 760? As wojeepster said, his is behind the panel and I thought yours should be.

I am glad that Volvo did not fit them to UK models.

That's interesting that there's no reminder light on the UK models, I wonder why?

I'll snap a couple of photos of the instrument cluster for demonstration purposes and I'll post them up here :)

Maybe Volvo thought we had better memories in the 1970s and 1980s because they started fitting them in the 1990s.

Talking of memories..............what was the topic?
