S40 speedometer removal (2001)

Post by meteg »

Hello all,

my cousin has a an 2001 S40 I have ordered a radio with cd player for it HU-615 from E-bay and it came with the frame and the info centre button on it also a with a cup holder.. what I wonder is after I installed the radio and the frame I noticed there is a wiring harness with 4 pins behind the frame I believe this is for the trip computer however the pins and the shape of the harness do not match the trip computer switch which came with the radio.. also I wonder if anyone can tell me if the display which is under the fuel gauge and the engine temp gauge is used for the trip computer.. and how can I remove the speedometer to check if there is wiring behind that display?

thanks

I'm sort of stumped. I also have an SC-816 in my S70 and it is quite separate from the trip information module/switch. Are you saying that the radio and the info section of your car are integrated?

sorry for confusing you.. to make it clear I need to make a better explanation..

the car is my cousins car its an 2001 S40 it didnt have a trip computer, but after I made a research I found out that the trip computer display is located under the fuel/temp gauge.. however the switch which is used to operate the trip computer didnt exist.. I ordered a radio HU 615 to replace his old stereo which only has casette player.. however the guy who I bought the radio has also sent me the frame which surrounds the stereo in other words the frame which the radio slides in.. so that frame came with a trip computer switch however the switch doesnt have the wiring harness so I want to remove the speedometer to look if there is any wiring behind the display..

I hope this explanation is better..

thanks

If you have an HU radio (sorry I assumed SC earlier) I believe these are for the newest S40/V50 models and may not fit your car. You say that connector is different too...that would be why.

the radio fit perfectly to the car with no problems.. anyway it looks like I will remove the speedometer to find out if there is wiring behind it.

thanks
