Benefit auction for MVS?

Post by madorion »

Hi all,
We all have stuff that we don't need, ordered wrong, old but very usable,
stuff. It doesn't have to be related to Volvo? Why not have an auction to benefit the site. Generous people, who want to show their appreciation can donate, hold the item till it's maximum bid and ship it for free to the bidder.
We get rid of the stuff we don't need, the site benefits, and the bidder is happy because he/she got something that they needed!
We run the auction for a week, in a thread controlled by the auctioneer,
he updates the thread with the going price till the close of the auction.
The winning bidder is notified, he donates the amount of the item.
The individual who donated the item, is notified that the item has been paid to MVS, He intern sends it to the buyer free of charge. If it's a huge, heavy item, the shipping costs may have to be shared.

0909 PM EDIT:All items should have no reserve, $.01 starting bid. Payment should be through PayPal incase of international sales.

What do you think? It would have to be done by someone always on the
forum and it would be only for one week. He would be in control of the thread till the auctions end. Each donated item would have the donator's
email with it, to know who to contact when won.

Anyone else think this is a viable way to support our favorite site?

Hey, I'm just the idea guy(think tank) mostly just (tanked)! I can help! I could do it, but, i would only be able to update the auction once a day, and that wouldn't be fair to the bidders.

Plus, I start 12 hour days tomorrow

I have plenty of items to donate! The people have to understand
that the items donated MUST be of GOOD Quality(something we ourslves would buy).

Thanks

I hear you...I do a quick look in the mornings before I leave work (usually before 7:30 and don't get home until after 4PM....not a 12 hour day but still I'm not on the board all day.

Wow, Doug, thanks for the idea for the auction. Let me turn it over in my head for a few days.
Help keep MVS on the web -> click sponsors' links here on MVS when you buy from them.

Also -> Amazon link
. Click that when you go to buy something on Amazon and MVS gets a cut!

Sorry it's been a while since this discussion, Doug. I wanted to let you know that a) it's a good idea, b) the thought is very generous of you, c) let's keep this on the back burner for now because I'm redesigning the site and I need to focus my energies there, d) but let's keep discussion about it going.

If you have further ideas (anybody) about this, please add them to this thread.
