head gasket replace 98 v70glt

Got the head off, What else should i check before spending the money on gaskets, etc... i bought the car non running with water leaking out of the back of the head. the man i got it from said it ran hot stopped running and had it towed home. then i got it.

You need to make sure the head is not neither warped or cracked. It will cost you a couple of hundred bucks but it is worth it to take it to a machine shop to have it checked out and at least trued if it is warped.

Beyond that, the head gasket kit is a tad over $100.00 and the new head bolts will ding you another $40.00 or so. If the head is bad (cracked) all bets are off.

I fear I am about to jump into the same situation but I am a Volvoholic. There is something about buying something with a 58 in the VIN that gets me excited.
