stick lock in P position

Post by Daniel Liao »

hi,

I have 86 Volvo 850. in the last 8 months, I always can not push the stick buttom down when it is on P position. I need to push the "shiftlock override" to release the "buttom" and I can move the stick from P position.

I have asked this question to few engineers and not one have any idea, So any input will be VERY appreciated.

Tnaks in advances

your micro switch is probably bad. It's what senses what gear you're in, and lets you switch out of it. That's why you have to "override" it. It's called the "PNP" switch, I believe, and usually costs around $225 installed at an independent shop.

Previous reply right and wrong. It is the microswitch that keeps you from shifting out of park but this is MUCH different than the PNP switch. Microswitch costs ~$20 on fcpgroton.com website and info to replace is on volvospeed.com (access through console between seats) PNP switch is much more difficult process -also on volvospeed.com That part costs ~$100 on fcpgroton site. Good luck.
