'93 960 Blower motor for A/C and Heater

Post by lehmanra »

Does anyone know how to access the blower motor? I had the motor replaced a few months ago and now it the circuit is blowing fuses. I was hoping to look at the wiring to see if something is pinched or frayed. However I don't even know where to start to look for the motor.

Did not have the problem with my '90 Aerostar mini van. The motor stuck out from the firewall under the hood. No such luck with the VOLVO.

Any suggestions on some good documentation or manuals for a '93 960 VOLVO?

Thanks,

FWIW, the 960 blower motors are notorious for ingesting loose debris in the cabin. There have been a number of posts regarding the cellophane wrappers, plastic bags, etc. that get sucked up into the blower from the passenger footwell. You may well find that the squirrel cage of your blower is partially blocked with similar material.

I wonder is this could put additional strain on the motor and contribute to the blown fuses?

Dear Richard,

Good a.m. and may this find you well. The Volvo Tech Manual is 8701201: Climate Control, 700/900, 1982- . You can find these Tech Manuals at www.volvotechinfo.com . I do not have a 960, so am relying on the manual, in what follows.

See p. 178. You should:

(a) Disconnect negative clamp from battery terminal and put clamp in plastic bag. Be sure to note radio security code (removing negative clamp de-activates the radio; you will need the code to re-activate the radio).

(b) Remove soundproofing panel, under the glove box (there are three plastic fasteners, that come out, when turned)

(c) Remove the glove box (there are several screws, some of which may be covered with fuzzy coating (you can feel the screwheads, and must insert the screwdriver into the screwheads, through the fuzzy coating)

You should then see the motor. Then:

(a) remove the positive terminal strip and bracket on the blower housing

(b) remove the connector

(c) remove the motor. It should be held in place by three fasteners.

Hope this helps.

Yours faithfully,

MY MISTAKE!

The problem is not with the blower motor. When I run the fan without the A/C on it runs OK. Problem is when I turn on the A/C and it blows #28 30A fuse.

This '93 960 has auto A/C.
