judder on tickover

Post by Craig »

Hi, after having the head replaced(due to warping) and the inlet manifold (due to being cracked), and the upper engine mounts(worn out), and the head gasket(blown) , and the exhaust manifold(due to the splitter being loose) I still have a problem on tickover.

It had this symptom much worse when I took the car in to have the head gasket changed but after having all the above work carried out this problem still remains. when sat it traffic with the car ticking over it feels like its about to stall all the time but the revs never drop below 8-900 rpm so I know it cant be the engine causing this. When driving along the car feels fine its just at tickover that you get this vibration.....

The garage that carried out the work have checked the engine and gearbox over and not found any error codes or other faults. This problem only started about a week ago, could it be one of the lower engine mounts? or maybe the torque convertor in the gearbox?.

Please help because after just having spent the best part of

how many miles are on the car? It sounds far fetched, but I've seen similar problems at low-speed driving when the fuel pump relay (not the pump, but the relay) was failing.

Problem solved.....or soon to be.

The fault apparently lies with one of the other engine mounts, after picking up the car today I noticed a slight oil leak and so returned it to the garage.Whilst looking for the cause of the oil leak I asked him to check the engine mounts and sure enough one of them is knackered.

Just got to shell out even more money to get it fixed now, but at least its not the gearbox which was next on the list of culprits.

odd, the problem you described sounds to have nothing in common with a broken motor mount. A motor mount would simply cause extra vibration.
