My 88 volvo wagon (399,000 km) was in an accident. Thank goodness I was in a volvo! The body shop wants $2900 CDN to repair the back bumper, left side panel and replace the taillight system. The insurance company want to offer me about $2000 and write it off.
On top of this, I will soon need a new u-joint ($600+), and new power steering (again $600+).
The electrical system is starting to go. The horn doesn't work. The gas gauge doesn't work (but I can live with this). Sometimes, the windows won't go up or down unless I pull out the fuse, turn the car off, put the same fuse back in, then restart the car. The left front blinker doesn't work. The left passenger door has been seized shut for a long time.
I'm really attached to my car, but not mechanical. What kind of extra repair costs am I looking at? And is it worth fixing to try and get another few years out of it?
Is my 88 volvo worth fixing?

Welcome to MVS.
I would take the insurance $. I bought a '91 240 sedan for $1200. I then have put about $400 into it. It looks and drives great!
