Hi,
i've had conflicting advice recently on the use of engine oil on my 960 with 113k on the clock. Some recommend a 5/30 whilst others say use a heavier 15/40 because of its mileage. I have'nt had any problems and the motor is sweet as a nut apart from a slight valve lifter rattle on cold start up. Does anyone have the definitive answer. Thanks.
960 3ltr /94 engine oil type/viscosity

The Volvo recommendation is based on the ambient temperature:
Less than 68F (20C) SAE 5W-30
-4F to 100F (-20C to 38C) SAE 10W-30
Greater than 14F (-10C) SAE 15W-40
Must be politicians who decided this as they seem to be covering all eventualities without making a firm decision. I would go for the 10W-30 as they are the temps we can expect in this country.
