Shock & shock mount S40

Hi, I have a volvo S40 T4 2000 with a crazy knocking in the front drivers side. I just had the shock replaced and the car did around 1000 ks quietly but the knocking is now back. I have mechanics discussing whether or not a shock should have come with the shock mount. Could this be the case? or do i have some serious problems with the front end.

I can't believe these mechanics are discussing such things. I've never seen a shock come with a shock mount. They are sold and bought separately and should have been changed with your new shocks/struts.

I just fixed my S40 with the same problem. The top shock mount was broken (top & bottom piece holding the rubber covered top shock mount was separated). Not able to get one on the weekend, I went to Ace, bought a foot of 1" heater hose, cut a few strips to fit inside the rubber covered washer where it had worn through and then weld the assembly together. No more rattles and good as new. Save $70+ in parts.
