XC90 Prologic Problems

Post by daveb »

Has anyone experienced rear channel prologic problems? While listening to FM in Prologic mode I get sever static out of the rear channel. When I switch to 3 channel static disappears.

that's due to how prologic works. The left and right channels are compared in prologic. Anything in the mid-band that matches between the channels (such as voice) is sent to the center speaker (sum). Anything that is different in the mid channel is sent to the rear (difference). Due to the nature of FM, you will receive differences between the two channels in the form of static. It's always there, but ProLogic shows it in a much more pronounced way by filtering it from the mains, and sending it to the rear, amplified.
