Hi,
my 244GL has suddenly developed a hassle with the passenger side front door handle mechanism. I will not unlock.
I removed the inside trim and took a look as best I could and it seems there's a tiny little screw goes through a plate and serves as a catch to move another plate when the handle is lifted.
Slackness seems to have developed over the years and now this screw instead of lifting the plate it should lift, it slides along the side of it. We need a longer screw. And the length of that would be limited by available room. Silly system it seems to me.
Anyway, the problem is that I can't get in there to play with that screw. I can't see how to get in and I can't see how to get the mechanism out.
There is one large cross headed screw looking at me that seems a likely thing but I don't want to remove it if it won't help and I don't want to remove it if it'll just cause everything to drop down or something and become unfixable, un-put-backable.
And I don't want to remove it if that's entirely the wrong way to go and there's a simpler way, which there ought to be.
So can anyone help? Anyone got an experience with this particular hassle? Know how to best fix it?
regards,
ab
