2001 S40 Front Dash Speakers Removal
I have a 2001 S40, and i would like to replace the front dash speakers with aftermarket tweeters. I would like to know if it's possible to remove the speakers without taking apart the whole dash. I would like to have information on how to take the speakers out.

Welcome to MVS.
Let me suggest that you check with http://www.Crutchfield.com as to the correct Ohms for the speaker you are replacing. Without this general information, you could put in a replacement that looks great on paper but will not sound good at all or could even cancel out some of the sound in your car's other speakers. That said, the instructions for removal are below: Here's another one that may be slightly different:

Thanks! I actually bought the speakers from Crutchfield after consultation with their support. I've done the installation for the door speakers already, but I am stuck with taking the dash speakers out. The grille comes off easily, but then i m stuck with the speaker, i don't know which clip/hole to depress to get the speaker out. If there's a photo or diagram of it, it would help greatly.
From what I can see with the PDF you posted (thanks again), it seems that the speakers can be lifted straight up from the dashboard without taking anything else apart. That's the part I want more details on.

Wish I knew...I don't own this particular car, so all I have are some data files like I posted. You might try over on http://www.s40concepts.net/forum/ surely someone's done this.

Thanks for your quick response.
I actually have another question, how many ohms are the rear deck speakers? I want to also switch them out with aftermarket replacements. I have a Sony head unit. I was told that the front speakers and the dash speakers are wired in parallel and the rear speakers are alone, but I have heard conflicting reports. on impedance and wiring.

I have no idea, but did find on S40Concepts a HUGE audio section with an "audio god," who goes by the name of Tracy...He/she knows a ton about these system...Like there's 100's...maybe thousands of posts over there that will most likely answer all of your questions: http://s40concepts.net/forum/index.php? ... 84c7dd2099
