Hello everyone!
I had to remove the top of the dashboard today on my 850 in order to replace the burned out light bulbs in the instrument cluster. I know I could have done it without taking the whole top section of dashboard out, but I thought it might just be easier, which it was. But then, after I reconnected all the wiring and the negative terminal on the battery, of course the SRS light came on. I read in your forum that it means a trip to the dealer, and I am thinking, I can't go to the dealer every time I take the dashboard off. And I'm thinking, and I know you think I'm retarded or something, that I'd just remove the damn airbags units altogether and remove the little light bulb from the cluster, and forget about it. After all, my 240 didn't have one, and it's "supplement" isn't it? Other than being a bit stupid (I know it's not right), do you know if it would screw up something in the car?

If you had the battery disconnected before your pulled the plug off of the passenger's side airbag and you had the airbag plugged back in before hooking the battery up again you shouldn't have tripped the alarm light.
Yank the glove box and double check the connection on the airbag. The plug is a bit odd.
To reset the light it does mean a trip to the stealership or, rumor has it, there is a cracked version of VOL-FCR floating around on bit-torrent. That software along with a serial KKL VAG-COM cable will allow you to reset the light yourself. The last time I looked on eBay the cables were going for around $18.00. Most of the cables you find are USB which folks say will not work and I've heard mixed results from people trying to use USB to serial adapters with the proper serial cable since most laptops no longer have a serial port.
There was a reason you kept that old IBM think pad with dead batteries laying around after all.

thanks for the input.
well, i actually did disconnect/reconnect the battery terminal just the way you described it, and the airbag wiring is put back in right, so i don't know what it is about. anyhow, i haven't quite yet decided about what to do, i have no access to the old IBM, and my local Volvo dealer is ran by criminal (avoid Barry's in N. Dartmouth, MA at all cost!), so i'm still pondering about removing both driver side and passenger side airbag...nothing that i use everyday anyway, if you get my drift.
