s70 turbo oil coolant line leak
I have a 1998 S70 turbo. The oil coolant outlet line is leaking. How difficult is it to replace? Can I bypass cooling the oil though the radiator and connect a aftermarket oil coolant?
The shop quoted me $650 for the job. The oil cooler hoses cost about $90 each and are a real pain to replace. Replace both while you're at it. I just finished mine this weekend.
The hardest part of the job is getting to the 10mm bolt which attaches the lines to the front of the block. There's a bolt attaching the a/c compressor to the block which gets in the way. You need to do this part first, or you'll end up with oil in your hair.
Then, you pull the oil thermostat off of the block. You get to it by taking off the passenger side wheel and pulling back the plastic like you do when changing the timing belt. It's right under the serpentine belt. That part is pretty easy.
Finally, you take the hoses off the radiator using snap ring pliers. That part is easy, too. Take off the oil filter and pull the hoses out through the wheel well.
