Difference between V70 and XC70 suspension

Post by Zoll »

Hi, my 1998 V70 AWD rear end is very low (can't see the top of the tires) and every bump on the road feels like I'm hitting the bump stops. I looked under the car last night and could see some oil on the rear control arms, right under where the shocks are (Nivomats). So my diagnosis is blown Nivomats on the car. I looked on the internet for some used ones and find a set for 175.00$ each. They are coming from a 1998 XC70. I am worried that it won't fit my V70. I checked the product ID on both cars, 5th line, 4th digit is a "M" on both cars. Should these fit despite the suspension's height difference between the XC and V70?

VADIS shows both cars with the M code to be the same shock, part number 8626027.

Excellent news! Does anything else should be changed along with the shocks? Bushings etc...

I'm surprised the used ones are that expensive, considering new ones on FCP Groton are $275 each. I hope those come with a warranty.

BTW, one of the forums (not sure which one, maybe Swedespeed or volvoxc, did a survey on what people who had Nivomats did when they wore out, and most apparently found a kit that enabled them to replace them with regular shocks. I believe additional springs are needed too, so it couldn't have been much cheaper. I have the "Ms" too but mine are still doing reasonably well, although a little soft.

New shocks, springs and mounts would probably be more expensive. The shocks have a 3 month warranty on them.

I looked at the rear of my car after a drive on the highway, it will raise the rear about 2 inches once I'm stopped. 40 minutes later, the wheel is back tucked in the fender. Ride is very rough. Hope it will fix it.

It will. It is higher after you drive because the Nivomats pump themselves up.
