oil level sending unit is leaking

Post by buddythedog »

I am losing quite a bit of oil from the oil sending unit, near the oil filter on my 88 240. It isn't cracked that I can tell, but i cant get the darn thing out..maybe a 1 inch socket would do it. It seems to be working, should I tighten it or remove it and use some type of thread sealer? (something tells me not to)

I would suspect that it is either cracked or the sealing ring has gone. Whichever, it needs to be removed to see what the problem is.

I would not advise thread sealer.
