My '94 turbo has trouble starting. I had it going a few times since and then it runs just fine. It's only the starting that gives trouble, cold or warm engine makes no difference. The engine does not cut out while running.
I read the fault codes and it gave me 3-1-4 on A2, camshaft sensor signal missing. I replaced it with a used version I watched on a running engine. Still no start and still code 3-1-4 on A2 (after I cleared the memory ofcourse before trying to start again).
So I decided to replace the fly wheel sensor, same problem exist. I get no spark and the fault code keeps reading 3-1-4.
I checked the wiring between the ECU and the connectors for both sensors, they are fine.
I cleaned all the connectors, checked the 103-relay (i hear the pump buzzing and it gives gas).
I checked my iginition system (which is about 8 months old), all is well.
All the fuses in the fusebox are good.
There is no current going to the solenoid whatsoever.
Since there is no other code than 3-1-4 I can't think of where to look next!
Any help?

I thought this was a crank / no start condition until that statement. Are you talking about the starter solenoid and the car will not crank? There is no current going to the solenoid whatsoever.

Sorry about the confusion. Yes, I am talking about the starter solenoid.
The car will crank but not start, it will not spark. I forgot to mention I disabled the alarm system as well with the Volvo relay that bypasses it, to rule out any problems there. ( I had that problem once, would not even let the starter motor go round so I don't think it'll be anything related to that).

This is still confusing. If the starter is not turning the engine (rr-rr-rr sound), you have a no crank problem, which can be a problem in the starter, solenoid, key switch or starting circuit. If the engine is not cranking you will not get a spark. If the engine is cranking, it is a different problem. You first need to figure out which problem you're working on and narrow it down accordingly.

I do apogolize, English is only my 2nd language. The starter motor does turn around the engine, and the battery is fully charged. It doesn't create a spark though.

Check your ignition coil at the side of the fender...one wire goes to the rotor where then 5 wires go to the top of the engine and spark plugs. If somehow you've disturbed this, either at the coil or at the rotor when you did the camshaft sensor replacement, you won't be getting any spark.

That's the thing, the problem lies before the rotor so to speak, since the solenoid will not even get 12v...MadeInJapan wrote:Check your ignition coil at the side of the fender...one wire goes to the rotor where then 5 wires go to the top of the engine and spark plugs. I had the same problem and am pretty sure that it was a bad ground connection. There is a ground connector with about 8 terminals on it right in front of the battery. Clean it with emery cloth (sandpaper) and inspect each of the female connectors to be sure that they get a good connection. There is another ground point from the ignition coil to the bodywork that can corrode as well. Be sure that they are all clean and tight and try again.....good luck!
