850 Turbo Wagon....top motor mount issue

Post by niall »

Hi all, I'm new to the forum.

I have a 1990 240dl sedan...over 200k and going strong.
I also have a 1996 850 Turbo Wagon which I think is a Platinum Edition. Car has 166k and is currently incapacitated  .

I thought it was the (auto) transmission (which is overfilled!),
since it would not shift into gear, and after almost selling the car for scrap, or replacing the trans', a few weeks ago I got it to go into gear, and now seems a lot better...shifts ok

I recently discovered that the top engine mount bushing was shot, causing excessive engine movement, and my thinking is that the linkage was messed up from vibration.
The bushing will be replaced today and hopefully no more
transmission problems.

I was wonderinf if there would be other damage caused by the bad engine mount. :?:

It seems I also have a bad cylinder, but that's for another day

Welcome to MVS,

Chances are there is no permanent damage. Have them check the rest of the mounts while they have it. The lower transmission mount may be shot as well. The only real damage I have heard of from bad mounts is damage to the oil pan from riding on the old motor mount base and actually wearing through the pan.

I got the bushing but can't figure out how to
squeeze it back in the mount.

Any ideas  :?: ?
