Bailey venturi dump valve

How to go faster, stop quicker, and turn harder. Chips, exhaust, larger turbos, bigger/slotted/drilled rotors, high performance brake pads, manual boost controllers, performance shocks/struts/springs, airbox mods and more! Also discussion on HID and Xenon lights, aftermarket foglights and other exterior lighting.

Bailey venturi dump valve

Post by UKJames »

Please excuse the naivety of this question.
I have an 94 850 T5 wagon in lovely original condition with 101K genuine miles on it. I indulge my imagination from time to time and look at various T5 upgrades and this issue keeps coming up, so I wonder if someone could kindly explain the advantages/disadvantages of a "dump valve" on my T5? I haven't come across this in the IPD performance upgrade kits.

Many thanks,

James.

It is supposed to keep your turbo spooled up to provide more power after you shift gears. Some of the them also make a cool "whoosh" noise which the boy-racers like. The problem is that the MAF has already measured the air that is dumped overboard and the computer thinks that amount of air is going into the engine. So the mixture goes way rich right after the dump. Not good for your spark plugs and catalytic converter. I wouldn't use one unless I were racing (for real) my car. I put one on my old Mitsubishi 3000 GT VR4 and took it off after awhile. They're just not worth the potential problems IMHO.

Hi Vegas,

Thanks for your advice, I will follow what you suggest and avoid installing a dump valve; a boy racer I am not, maybe 30 years ago, reckless boy that was!!!

Thanks again,

James.
