S80 2004 Alarm going off inconsistently but now...

Everything on the Volvo S80. Sometimes called an "executive car", the S80 was Volvo's top-of-the-line passenger car. P2 platform.

S80 2004 Alarm going off inconsistently but now...

Post by Mustang Sally »

Im about at the end of my rope on this alarm issue and hope that someone has experienced something similar.

About 7 months ago my alarm would occasionally go off for no apparent reason. It had even happened at the dealer the last time I had the car in for brakes and replacement of the top motor mount. Adding insult to the dealer charges was the fact that they "had not noticed". The battery is 1 year old so we can rule that out at the beginning.
When I questioned the repair tech at Volvo his response was "we had one just like it last week and couldn't figure out what was causing it. The alarm is tied to the sun roof so we think that might be the cause"
At $120 an hour "might be" won't fly with me so off I went. The problem has continued on and off with no particular consistency or pattern. Today however, when I rolled down the passenger side window the cause may have reared it's ugly head...the window came down a bit then started lowering in a way that was not even close to normal. The edge of the window closest to the side view mirror descended while the back portion followed at a much slower pace. This caused the window to be "contorted" for lack of a better description. When I went to raise the window it was equally amiss. After walking around to see if I could help in providing direction while engaging the motor it became clear that the window was not really attached to anything. You can lift an lower with ease, at least until it makes contact with what I imagine must be the mechanical structure intended to perform the function.
Now the alarm is sounding every 5 minutes, I reset and it sounds again. From reading it sounds like if I leave my key in the ignition it will stop the harassing siren. But my questions are; 1) could the alarm issue have been "festering" as the window issue worked it's way to so obvious even I couldn't miss it?
2) has anyone had this happen to their volvo window before, and is this a motor replacement to fix or is there potentially just a cable loose?

Many thanks for the ear and what an awesome site!!!!

I don't think the two problems are related. For the alarm, you probably need a new siren module. Check out this thread: https://www.matthewsvolvosite.com/forums ... 11&t=17479

On the window, you probably have a broken ball joint or bent regulator. See this thread: https://www.matthewsvolvosite.com/forums ... 11&t=19629. See this thead for how to get the panel off the door: https://www.matthewsvolvosite.com/forums ... 11&t=19177
