Assessing a used XC-70 at the dealership ?

Post by JSACKS »

I am in the market for an XC-70, probably 2004-6, to replace my dead V70 XC. I am posting to ask for any tips or advice for how to assess a used XC-70 at the dealership. What can a rank amateur such as myelf be expected to dig out in terms of problems areas or such like on a used car in the dealership?

If the salesman offers me a "certified" XC-70 with a 2 or 3 year warranty, does this necessarily indicate that the used vehicle is better or more reliable/more roadworthy than a non-certified vehicle?

My old V70 died on my wife when the transmission failed and that was a disaster financially and otherwise for us. I pray it doesn't ever happen again. Are there any telltale signs to look for in terms of transmission trouble when road testing a used wagon?

Appreciate any guidance, suggestions, or info, thanks!

The regular advice applies here too: maintenance records are very important; take it to an indie Volvo mechanic for an inspection. Have the dealer run and show you a Carfax report.

Come back here with those reports and we'll be able to help you further.
Help keep MVS on the web -> click sponsors' links here on MVS when you buy from them.

Also -> Amazon link
. Click that when you go to buy something on Amazon and MVS gets a cut!
