'01 V70 125k 2.4 non-turbo
We had seen the check engine light pop up several times in the last few months. At autozone, they indicated it was a P0420 code.
Today, we took her in to the dealer to have the recall software updated. They indicated that the crankcase breather system has a lot of pressure and suggested a breather box replacement ($850). 1)What is involved with correcting this? and 2) I'm glad I didn't start replaceing O2 sensors (yet).
Computer error code - breather box?

It's a pain, which is why it costs so much.prienn wrote:'01 V70 125k 2.4 non-turbo

Before I did that, I would try some www.auto-rx.com in it to see if it will clean up the sludge, hopefully opening up the passages and relieving the pressure. Some people also like Seafoam.
After the cleaning cycle, switch to only synthetic oil to reduce sludge accumulation.

Actually, it might be a good idea to do the breather box...AutoRx will clean the engine but not necessarily the PCV. I would pull the hose off of the larger accordion hose and clean the PTC nipple/connector out so that it is clear all the way through first and see if this alleviates the pressure.

Either one.prienn wrote:Does the box get replaced - or is it simply cleaned?
Here's one for an 850. Your car would be similar.prienn wrote:Is there a decent write up on this?
