I bought a 2001 XC wagon the end of last summer. So far it runs pretty good.
The check engine light is on and I will be bringing on Friday. I had a great volvo mechanic for volvos I have had in the past ... unfortunately his shop burnt down last summer and I will be taking the car to a dealer and I worry somewhat about using someone new.
Also, this past weekend I was driving down a notch in NH and it sounds as though my breaks are making rubbing squealing noise coming from the rear of the car.
Are their any quirks associated with the 2001 xc that would cause the check engine light to come on?
Thanks
J
Bringing XC in for the 1st time ... any "quirks" I ought to

As for 2001s, they tend to have auto transmission problems that trigger a transmission warning message on your dash. Always recommended on 2001s is a transmission software upgrade. Unfortunately, these software upgrades are only provided by dealers, so going to a dealer first and getting this done is a prudent first step.
CE could be anything engine/fuel/air/combustion/emissions related. The dealer will tell you what's wrong.

Help keep MVS on the web -> click sponsors' links here on MVS when you buy from them.
Also -> Amazon link. Click that when you go to buy something on Amazon and MVS gets a cut!

Thanks for your reply. I am in Maine ... not too many independent volvo mechanics close by. I did find one, but he would not be able to see my car until next month. I figure this first time I will go to the dealer and get whatever needs to be done. Hopefully though they will be honest about "needs".
Thanks for the info re the transition.
