99 S80 T6 Suspension Bump

Post by stratman3 »

When ever I hit a bump or accidently hit a pothole, it feels a hard hit kinda like metal agains metal. At low speed not a problem. Other than that it rides smooth, it just does not like bumps or dips on the road. I don't know what the connection might be but my old 850turbo use to do it to, not as hard though. Is there some type of bushing on the suspension that wears out and causes it? It almost feels like the car bottom out and there is nothing to stop it from hitting the frame.

The T6s have a firmer suspension than the NA S80s to give them "sportier" handling. I notice some unexpected harshness in my car too, but have just learned to live with it.

The spring seats do break eventually and usually result in a "clunking" noise when you hit a bump.

Have you checked the anti sway bar links? These eventually fail. They fail progressively, i.e. get looser and looser. Will eventually need replacing or they can come completely apart and could do more damage if end up hanging loosely 'blowing in the wind'.

Where are those located? and What do they look like? I figure I'll go through the whole suspension, and check and replace any bad looking bushing kinda stuff. I did replace the steering stops a few months back but never checked anything else.

They're connected between the strut and the swaybar and look like this: http://www.ipdusa.com/version.asp?strPa ... &V_ID=1716
