1999 s80 timing belt
1999 s80 timing belt
This is first time I am changing belt on my recently purchased 99 volvo s 80, I will be changing the water pump , timing belt etc etc. My questions are these: 1) if I do not have the tool to compress the belt tensioner,I need to take the crank pulley off. Is this correct? 2) why is the mark on the crankshaft not visible? 3) is the crank locking tool for the 850 turbo same for the s80? 4) do i need a t-puller to remove the pulley on the crank? Please ,if anyone is familiar with this procedure,I could use some advice..... Thank You

I believe you have to take the crank pulley off to get clearance to take the old belt off and put the new one on. According to one mechanic, you do not need to lock the cams just to change the timing belt. Just don't loosen the VVT hub bolts. If the cam moves, just put it back in position when you put the new belt on.
