1998 S70 Cannot Find Altitude Sensor (w/Pics), Please Help!

Post by S70Man »

1998 S70 Cannot Find Altitude Sensor (AKA Map / Barometric Sensor Volvo P/N 1275342).

I feel like an idiot. It's probably right there somewhere but I need to find this and can't. I researched it and heard people say right behind the Headlight in front of the Washer Tank, near the Hood Latch. I also heard at the inner Fender or inside the Fenderwell. I have completely pulled the Headlight, Parking Lamp, Filler Neck for the Washer Tank and Hood Latch. I have looked high and low and as far as I'm seeing it's not there. I have about 2 different connectors as shown but they're just connected to a "Holder" that goes to nothing. I thought I found it inside the Fenderwell but it turned out to be something completely different in there.

Is there "any" possibility some of these Volvos didn't have this? I have looked high and low and I'm pretty good with Volvos, just never had to deal with this. Does anyone have any photos of exactly where the sensor is located? I'd be extremely greatful if someone can help!

Here is what I'm seeing . . . .

It's what you're calling a "holder" behind the pink connector. Pull off the pink connector and you'll be able to see it better.

Then I guess I don't have one because that's definately not what's connected to the pink connector, it's just a holder.

I've got the replacement Altitude Sensor in my hand and thats for sure not whats connected to it, it's just a blank connector holder, light hollow, no connectors inside it, nothing?

Again, is it possible that some don't have Altitude Sensors?

I vaguely remember MIJ (I think) saying that it's down by the air splitter near the bottom of the radiator. You have to look up from the bottom of the car. I'll see if I can find the pic of it.

Nope, I was wrong. Those are ambient temp sensors. Nevermind.

I'm really starting to think some just don't have this, I don't know where else to look . . . .

I think one of those Connector Blanks / Holders in that area that has nothing connected to it, just a Holder, is where vehicles equipped with one is supposed to have them, while this one doesn't. I guess time to return the part.

Did you pull one of those connectors to the "holders" to make sure there are no electrical contacts in there? You didn't post a complete picture of the one at the pink connector, but the one below the water tank sure looks like a sensor to me. The pink connector is the correct color for the "baro" sensor. I suppose it's possible someone took the insides out of the sensor.

The pink connector goes to what is just a blank, not even shaped like the baro/alt sensor, just a light, hollow blank, holder. There are absolutely no connectors inside of it, same for the connector from the bottom attached near to/near the washer tank from underneath.

My conclusion is that this '98 S70 N/A just doesn't have one.

Thank you guys for the help!

VADIS says it's in the area where you've been looking for the Motronic system. I don't see one for the Fenix system. It should have 3 wires: a brown/pink, a violet/white, and a yellow/brown wire.

OK, sorry to be so insistent. FYI, here is a picture of mine with the connector.
