05 XC70 starting issue w/frost or temps below freezing

I have an 05 XC70 with 50K miles. For the past month whenever there is a heavy frost, typically below 30 degrees at night the car will turn over and start but then immediately cut out....once the sun hits the car and things warm up/dry out the car starts fine. I've had it into the volvo dealership as well as a local mechanic, both were unable to diagnose or get any diagnostic readings as the issue did not happen while in their hands. Now we're into spring and likely not to get another night of frost until September. Any ideas of what we should start with? is there a contact somewhere that gets moisture on it and then dries out, is it something with the fuel pump, is it the ignition coil?? please help with a place to start.

My guess would be a bad coolant temp sensor or intake air temperature sensor.

If either were the case wouldn't i have a check engine or error message that they could pick up when plugged in to be diagnosed? That's the biggest issue, it's only an apparent issue when there is a heavy frost...and maybe it has nothing to do with the moisture from a frost, maybe just the temperature since it runs fine during days of heavy rain. seems like i could find a large cooler and drive into it for diagnostics.
